Species: Dog
Condition: Selective Iga Deficiency
Organ System: Respiratory
Immunoglobulin A (IgA) is a form of protein vital for protecting the skin, and the respiratory, digestive and reproductive tracts. If your dog is deficient in IgA, they will be vulnerable to repeat infections and allergies. Typical symptoms include pustules and scratching, sneezing or nasal discharge, prolonged or recurring diarrhoea and frequent or painful urination. If your dog shows these indications your vet will analyse a blood sample to confirm IgA deficiency. There are various possible treatment to stimulate the immune system which may or may not be effective for your dog and the related complications can be treated as required.
