Species: Dog
Condition: Hyperlipoproteinemia
Organ System: Nervous/sensory
Hyperlipoproteinemia is a disorder which is almost unique to the miniature Schnauzer and the Briard. Essentially your dog is unable to digest fats correctly with the result that they have an excess of fats and fatty substances in their bloodstream. This can lead to vomiting and diarrhoea with abdominal discomfort and lack of appetite. These symptoms may come and go, depending on your dog’s diet. Your vet will check for this condition by a blood sample and if it is confirmed then your vet will work with you to create an appropriate diet for your dog. This will have minimal fat and your dog will need to follow it for life.
