Species: Dog
Condition: Lysosomal Storage Diseases
Organ System: Nervous/sensory

Lysosomal storage diseases are a collection of disorders which relate to the deficiency of a particular enzyme necessary for normal metabolic processes within the body. This results in cells storing the substance upon which the enzyme would usually act. This leads to them becoming bloated which impacts upon their ability to function normally. The specific time of onset and symptoms depend on the particular enzyme deficiency but most are visible by a year of age, occasionally two and symptoms would be expected to include severe degradation in behaviour and physical ability. Sadly these conditions are incurable.
