Species: Dog
Condition: Fold Dermatitis/Pyoderma
Organ System: Nervous/sensory

Dermatitis is irritation of the skin. Fold dermatitis is a condition most often seen in dogs which have been bred for specific characteristics such as wrinkled skin, heavy folds of skin on the face, or a curly tail. These tend to cause irritation and itching which can open up the skin, leaving your dog vulnerable to a bacteria infection (pyoderma). Although the symptoms can be managed with shampoos which your vet can recommend and if necessary antibiotics, however the fact that the condition is triggered by your dog’s physical make up means that it is likely to reoccur so your vet may recommend surgery to remove the rubbing folds.
