Schnauzer Comedo Syndrome in dogs

Schnauzer comedo syndrome is a variation of canine acne which only affects miniature Schnauzers. Like acne in humans, it is most common in the facial area, particularly on and around the chin, lips, and muzzle. The acne itself generally will not bother your dog. It can, however, be a precursor to a bacterial infection which will cause itchy skin and encourage your dog to scratch, which is likely to cause skin damage. Unlike humans your dog will not necessarily grow out of this condition, but your vet will give advice on how it can be managed. Your dog will be able to enjoy a good quality of life but should not be used for breeding.
