X-linked muscular dystrophy is a severe, debilitating condition similar to Duchenne muscular dystrophy in humans. Early symptoms are usually noticed at around 6 to 8 weeks of age and typical start with difficulty swallowing. The condition will become steadily worse and is likely to lead to generalized muscle weakness and exercise intolerance and then to muscle withering (atrophy), curvature of the spine, muscle contractures, and heart problems. Unfortunately there is currently no cure and so treatment essentially consists of managing the symptoms and providing care to keep your pet comfortable.
