Condition: Vitamin A-responsive Dermatosis

Vitamin A-responsive dermatosis is a condition in which your dog will experience dandruff, hair loss, scaling and marked crusting around the hair follicles. It is associated with American Cocker spaniels and Labrador retrievers. Your dog’s health may be fine in all other ways and this condition does not appear to cause pain. Although it is not linked with any deficiency in diet, this disorder responds well to treatment with large doses of vitamin A. It is recommended that you refrain from breeding your dog, if they have experienced this condition, as it is currently unclear how it is transmitted.
