Species: Dog
Condition: Pseudohermaphroditism
Organ System: Nervous/sensory
A reproductive system anomaly in which the affected dog is born with reproductive organs of one sex but displays some characteristics of the opposite sex as well. External parts of their reproductive organs can resemble both penis and clitoris. There are male and female pseudohermaphrodites. Males have testicles present with various female characteristics and likewise, females have ovaries present with male characteristics. True hermaphrodites, however, have both testicles and ovaries. Pseudohermaphrodites are susceptible to reproductive infections and tumours and always remain infertile. It is therefore best to neuter them.
