Species: Dog
Condition: Arthrosis of Cervical Articular Facet Joints
Organ System: Cardiovascular
Arthrosis of the cervical articular facet is a degenerative disease involving the bones of the neck. The problem may be unilateral or bilateral and usually affects the cervical facet joints between the second (C2) and third cervical (C3) bone. The problem has been diagnosed in Scottish Deerhounds. Flexions of the side of the neck where affected joints are located often elicit pain. Other diagnostic tools that may be recommended will include radiography, computed tomography, and myelography. The line of treatment involves administration of fluoroscopy-guided intra-articular injection of corticosteroids and lidocaine to relieve pain and inflammation.
