Species: Dog
Condition: Bronchiectasis
Organ System: Respiratory
A condition where a dog’s bronchi undergoes permanent narrowing. It is associated with serious lung problems, including persistent infections in canines. Important causes include inhalation of pollutants, exposure to radiation, and presence of foreign objects in the lungs, or infections and certain lung conditions. Breeds that are more predisposed to this condition include Siberian husky, miniature poodle, English springer spaniel, American cocker spaniel, and West Highland white terrier. The condition is more common in middle-aged and senior dogs. Dogs with a history of chronic lung problems are considered high-risk. The line of treatment will depend on the specific cause and severity of the condition. Close monitoring by your vet is very important during a dog’s recovery.
