Species: Dog
Condition: Castration Responsive Dermatosis
Organ System: Cardiovascular

A skin disorder caused by the imbalance of reproductive hormones, whether they are heightened or lowered. There are numerous causes; testicular tumours, false pregnancy and cystic ovaries being some of them. Affected animals have itchy skin, they intensively lick, scratch and bite sensitive spots, causing further inflammation and infection with subsequent hair loss. Ears and anal sacs can also be itchy and sensitive. Veterinarian needs to perform thorough examination with further detailed skin and hormone tests to confirm the diagnosis. Neutering or spaying is the therapy of choice; it usually gives very good results and resolves the problem.
