Species: Dog
Condition: Dalmatian Bronzing Syndrome
Organ System: Nervous/sensory
Dalmatian bronzing syndrome is a disorder which, as its name implies, is unique to the Dalmatian. Your dog will have a bronze skin tone and a patchy coat and their hair follicles will become inflamed. The inflammation will leave your dog susceptible to secondary infections. It is thought that this disorder is connected with the fact that Dalmatians have excessive uric acid excretion, however it is unclear why it only affects some Dalmatians when all Dalmatians have excessive uric acid excretion. If your Dalmatian displays the symptoms of Dalmatian bronzing syndrome, your vet will prescribe antibiotics and antiseptic shampoos.
