Demodicosis/Demodectic Mange in dogs

Species: Dog
Condition: Demodicosis/Demodectic Mange
Organ System: Nervous/sensory

Demodicosis (commonly known as mange) is a defect in your pup’s immune system which causes them to have an abnormal reaction to the Demodex canis mite, which is present on the skin of almost all dogs from a few days after birth. Most dogs do not even notice the presence of the mites however some dogs have a localized reaction, usually on the face or front legs and in more serious cases, the whole body may be affected. Your dog will have red, scaly, skin and hair loss. In mild cases, this is likely to clear up without treatment, but in severe cases, extensive and expensive treatment will be required.
