Dermoids in dogs

Dermoids are areas of skin which develop normally but are located in places where you would not normally expect to find skin. They are usually found on the cornea (the transparent layer forming the front of the eye) or the conjunctiva (a thin layer of tissue which covers the inside of your dog’s eyelids and the white part of the eyeball). Small dermoids generally have no effect on your dog but larger ones can cause irritation and vision impairment. As well as the physical dermoid you may notice other signs of eye irritation such as discharge and redness. Your vet may therefore decide to remove them by surgery.
