Species: Dog
Condition: Ectropion
Organ System: Nervous/sensory
Ectropion is an outward sagging of the eyelids. Because of this the eyelid is unable to function effectively as protection for the eye, leaving it exposed and potentially leading to irritation and other disorders such as conjunctivitis. Mild cases of ectropion may not require specific treatment and your vet can provide medication to control any secondary conditions. More severe cases can lead to persistent problems related to the irritation of the eye so your vet may recommend surgery as a permanent solution. Signs that your dog may have ectropion include discharge from the eye, redness and difficulty producing tears.
