Enlarged foramen magnum is a condition in which the opening at the back of the skull is too large, resulting from a defect in development of the occipital bone. The condition has been described in small/medium and toy breeds that are often brachycephalic such as the Yorkshire Terrier, Pomeranian, Maltese Terrier, Chihuahuas, Pekingese, Miniature and Toy poodle, Miniature Keeshond, and Beagle. Dogs with an enlarged foramen magnum may not exhibit any clinical sign. No treatment is available.
