Species: Dog
Condition: Glaucoma
Organ System: Nervous/sensory
Glaucoma is caused by excessive pressure from fluid in the eye. It can be inherited or develop as a result of another condition. Your vet will alert you to the possibility of glaucoma if your dog develops one of these disorders. Inherited glaucoma tends to develop suddenly. Your dog will experience pain which will increase as the condition progresses. You may notice your pet rubbing their eye with their paw or rubbing their head on the floor. If you do notice these symptoms it is critical to contact your vet immediately as glaucoma needs to be treated urgently if there is to be any chance of your dog keeping their sight.
