Species: Dog
Condition: Hemangiopericytoma
Organ System: Cardiovascular
It is a vascular tumor originating from the pericytes, a type of connective tissue cell. The malignant tumor affects capillaries in subcutaneous tissue. In time, the tumor grows until it takes up space and exerts compressive action on nearby organs, and eventually impairing their function. This can be fatal when the problem occurs close to the heart and lungs. Recovery rate is high, especially when the tumor is still small. The problem is more common in large breeds compared small canine breeds.
