Species: Dog
Condition: Histiocytic Ulcerative Colitis
Organ System: Nervous/sensory
Histiocytic ulcerative colitis is a disorder which is almost unique to the Boxer and the French bulldog. It is essentially a form of bowel disease characterized by chronic diarrhoea. Symptoms are likely to develop when your dog is around a year old. Although your dog will go to the toilet frequently, the quantity of faeces may be normal. They may have frequent accidents due to being caught short but may strain to relieve themselves. You may also see them passing blood or mucous. This disorder can not be cured but it can be managed through a combination of medication and dietary control. Your vet will advise on a feeding regime.
