Species: Dog
Condition: Histiocytoma
Organ System: Nervous/sensory

Histiocytomas are benign tumours which occur in pups and young dogs, usually on the head (particularly the ears) and the legs. The tumours are small and may be ulcerated but may not irritate your dog unless they are actually itchy. If your dog does appear to be irritated by the tumour, your vet can remove it either by normal surgery or by freezing it off, however otherwise your vet may leave it as most histiocytomas clear up without further treatment after a few months. The following breeds are most likely to be affected: Boxer, Dachshund, British bulldog, Scottish terrier, Bull terrier, Greyhound.
