Lymphocytic-plasmacytic enteritis (LPE) is a form of inflammatory bowel disease characterized by chronic diarrhoea and vomiting. This disorder may be seen in all dogs however there is a form of it unique to the Basenji called Immunoproliferative enteropathy (IPE). LPE has been associated with parasites, bacterial infection, dietary sensitivities and intestinal cancer, however in many cases the exact cause is unknown. IPE is a hereditary condition. In both cases, your dog will suffer from chronic diarrhoea and vomiting. If left untreated these will lead to weight loss. Your vet will provide medication and advice on diet.
