It is a collection of disorders affecting the peripheral nerves, and involves motor nerve dysfunction. Symptoms reflect lower motor neuron problems including reduced or absent reflexes and muscle tone, or paralysis. Laryngeal paralysis may also be present. The condition generally affects both rear legs. Most cases are chronic with slow onset, with an early onset (1-3 years old). Both male and female dogs are equally susceptible. Surgery may be undertaken to correct the abnormality.
