Species: Dog
Condition: Lens Luxation
Organ System: Nervous/sensory
Lens luxation is where the lens of the eye (which is responsible for absorbing light) is abnormally positioned. It should be between the iris (the coloured part of the eye) and the retina (the light-sensitive area of the eye at the back of the eyeball). If lens luxation occurs, the lens can move either forwards or backwards. If it moves forwards, this can increase the pressure in the eye and increase the risk of glaucoma. This will cause your dog severe pain and they are likely to rub at their eye with a paw or on the floor. If your dog shows these symptoms you should contact your vet immediately.
