Species: Dog
Condition: Pemphigus
Organ System: Nervous/sensory
Pemphigus is the collective name for a group of disorders in which the cells in your dog’s body separate as a result of your pet experiencing an inappropriate immune response to normal skin cells. All forms of pemphigus lead to blisters, pustules, and crusting erosions in the skin. These start on the face and ears. In more severe forms of pemphigus, they will spread to other areas of the body. Some forms of pemphigus lead to loss of pigment on the nose, so your dog will need protection from the sun. Your vet will prescribe medication to control these disorders which your pet will probably need on a life-long basis.
