Species: Dog
Condition: Peripheral Neuropathies
Organ System: Nervous/sensory
The central nervous system is located in the brain and spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system consists of all the other nerves in your dog’s body. Peripheral neuropathies are a group of disorders which affect the peripheral nervous system. They are characterized by muscle weakness and sometimes by coughing (if the weakness affects the larynx) or difficulty eating (if the oesophagus is affected). The age at which your dog will begin to show symptoms depends on the specific condition and your dog’s breed. The rate of progression of the disorder likewise depends on these factors. Currently there is no cure for these conditions.
