Species: Dog
Condition: Pituitary Dwarfism
Organ System: Nervous/sensory
Pituitary dwarfism is a rare disorder caused by a malfunction of the pituitary gland, which performs a crucial function in growth and development. If your pup has this condition then they will be of normal proportions but will be exceptionally small and are likely to have particularly high-pitched barks. In addition to growth, the pituitary gland also performs other functions connected with the nervous, skeletal and reproductive systems so your pup may also show symptoms of secondary disorders associated with these systems. It is possible, but expensive, to treat your pup with replacement growth hormone if they have this condition.
