Species: Dog
Condition: Pituitary Tumor
Organ System: Nervous/sensory

A tumour of the pituitary gland, located on the base of the brain. It is the most important endocrine gland, controlling other glands and their hormone production. Most pituitary tumours are benign, but because of their location, they cause serious problems. They compress the brain and impair pituitary’s regulatory function causing neurological symptoms and issues with other endocrine glands. The vet will diagnose the tumour with the help of X-ray, MRI and CT imaging. Due to its location, the tumour is inoperable and chemotherapy is the best option. It is a complicated treatment requiring a lot of time and patience with variable results.
