Species: Dog
Condition: Pododermatitis
Organ System: Nervous/sensory
The inflammation of the feet or paws caused by a number of reasons ranging from allergies, infection, parasites to cancer and immune or hormonal disorders. The dog is often licking and biting its paws.
Footpads are swollen, red and painful. Area between the digits and around the nails is also affected. Scaling with crusts, blisters and hair loss can be seen. After detailed medical history and examination, the vet will propose the therapy aimed at the primary cause. It may also include foot soaks and bandages, as well as lifestyle changes. Although the treatment can be long lasting and demanding, most dogs recover and have a normal life.
