Species: Dog
Condition: Polyarthritis
Organ System: Nervous/sensory
Polyarthritis is inflammation affecting multiple joins at the same time. It is most commonly seen in lower parts of the limbs. The inflammatory changes usually appear symmetrically. There can be seen joint swelling and audible cracking of the bones. The animal is reluctant to move and is limping. Symptoms often appear in cyclic fashion; they are changing with periods of remission. The vet will examine the affected joints and perform further tests with X-ray images to determine the severity of the condition. Unfortunately, this condition cannot be cured, only properly managed with physical therapy, painkillers, bandages and weight control.
