Species: Dog
Condition: Renal Cystadenocarcinoma & Nodular Dermatofibrosis
Organ System: Respiratory
Renal cystadenocarcinoma and nodular dermatofibrosis is a condition which affects German Shepherds. It is characterized by lumps (nodules) on the skin which in themselves may be painless (at least to begin with) but which often point to cancer of the kidneys (renal cystadenocarcinoma) or of the uterus. Your vet may remove individual lumps if they become ulcerous or appear to irritate your dog, they will also monitor your dog’s kidneys to identify early indications of kidney problems. Affected females should be spayed to remove both the risk of cancer of the uterus and the risk of unintended couplings causing the gene to be passed on.
