Species: Dog
Condition: Tetralogy of Fallot
Organ System: Urogenital
Tetralogy of Fallot is the collective term for a group of heart disorders which often occur together. They are believed to be the result of abnormal development of the conotruncal septum which is part of the tissue which separates the heart into chambers, enabling correct blood flow. These defects place additional strain on the heart and can also mean that your dog’s blood has a reduced oxygen content. The condition appears to be painless, however affected dogs tend to be small and lethargic. Surgery is currently impractical in dogs however milder cases can often be controlled with medication and careful management of your dog.
